I’m back! Well sort of. I won’t race for another 4 weeks, but I am back to training and feeling good about everything. I hit a bit of an emotional hump in Amsterdam when my body refused to cooperate with my plan to make it cover 1500 meters as fast as it could. My mind thought one thing but my body just wouldn’t get recovered from the bronchitis. Eventually my mind gave in and I lost all confidence. One day I would feel like I was back to normal and then I would have two days where I felt like a lump of jello. Every few days I would get my hopes up that I would be ready to race at the London Grand Prix and then I would have a day where I would struggle just to finish an easy run. On July 30th my coach and I decided that it was time to pack up and get back to DC and get everything checked out to ensure that my illness wasn’t more serious than we thought. Thankfully it wasn’t and after a few days of rest I could resume hard training again. Since then I have had to let go of my frustration at how the summer has transpired thus far and instead turn my focus to September. More than anything the last few weeks have been a mental battle more than a physical one. I worked extremely hard all winter and spring and my aerobic fitness is phenomenal compared to previous years so it is just a matter of time and few hard workouts before I will be back to PR shape. Right now I am just trying to trust that it will all come together in the next 3 weeks and that the hard work in March and April will pay off in September where I will race first in Rieti, Italy on September 9th.
